At Aston University London, every programme on your chosen pathway will begin with a common landing module to introduce key fundamental concepts required by the rest of the pathway and to introduce you to the learning and teaching style of our innovative London courses.

You will be taught by a combination of academic and industry experts, and supported by our success coaches who will be with you every step of your journey to ensure you have the best possible chance of success in your degree. Our block teaching model means you will be able to plan your time around two days on campus each week, with the opportunity to spend more flexible time working on your individual and group projects. You will study at most two modules at a time, allowing you to focus in-depth on your chosen specialism and continually work on projects.

What you will learn

In the taught stage you will study various elements of project management such as Agile Project Management, Managing Projects and Global Risk and Resilience Management. As well as advancing your project management skills in planning, executing, monitoring projects and managing risks; you will also explore innovation in business environments as well as AI - preparing you to meet the evolving demands of the job market and excel in your career.

In the dissertation phase, you will complete a research project on a project management topic of your choice, showcasing your ability to conduct independent research with a clear consideration of ethics, theory and methods.

Global Risk & Resilience Management
The module will examine elements of risk, resilience and sustainable development challenges in terms of project management. Local, national and international impacts will be analysed. The module will use examples from different global risk, resilience and sustainable risk neutral project management operations and business continuity operations, to provide a practical perspective. It will draw on seminal academic research articles and current research being undertaken by the module leader and other colleagues.

Agile Project Management
This module will provide you with an in-depth understanding of agile project management principles, methodologies, and practices. By the end of the module, you will be able to apply agile frameworks (i.e. kanban, scrum, XP, lean & DSDM), use agile tools, foster team collaboration, and continuously improve agile processes to deliver high-quality project outcomes. This module will also enable you to apply the concepts of prioritisation, time boxing, iteration; so you can deliver high-quality products that meet customer needs while continuously improving their processes and practices.

Project Cost Analysis and Optimisation
This module aims to equip you with advanced skills in analysing, managing, and optimising project costs. It will provide an in-depth understanding of cost management techniques, tools for budgeting, forecasting, and financial control in project environments. The module will also explore mathematical methodologies to maximise project efficiency by optimising resource allocation and minimising waste, aligning with strategic financial goals.

This module aims to develop your understanding of project management processes and the use of various tools and techniques for effective management of projects. It will enable you to apply your knowledge and theory to a practical work based context, using business specific information and data. You will be exposed to current research on project management and the group projects will have considerable research components.

The module aims to introduce you to the overall vision of artificial intelligence, including its origins, current realities, major successes, and the limitations of existing AI solutions from both theoretical and practical perspectives. The content is designed to complement and support student engagement with industry challenges, including through group and individual projects.

You will be engaging in activities that will enable you to understand how to engage appropriately and effectively with a diverse range of people. Independent Industry Project
The module aims to build on your core knowledge and understanding gained throughout the programme. It requires you to work independently to evaluate and critically comment on a contemporary issue relevant to the programme. The outcome of this module will be a report that evidences your investigation of the chosen business-related issue.

On successful completion of both the taught and dissertation stage, you will be able to:

One of the following:

  • 2:2 (lower second-class honours) degree or equivalent
  • Equivalent overseas degree recognised by Aston University (see international students tab below for more information)

You will also need to provide:

    • If you are a current student or recent graduate (within the last 2-3 years), we will ask for an academic reference
    • If you are currently employed and not a recent graduate, we will ask for a professional reference
  • An official academic transcript of your university grades to date

The United Kingdom government has confirmed that European Union (EU), other European Economic Area (EEA) and Swiss nationals commencing academic courses in England from August 2021 will no longer be charged the same tuition rates as UK students.

Tuition fees for students are reviewed annually and may increase in subsequent years in line with inflation linked to the Retail Price Index (RPI) to take account of the University’s increased costs of delivering the Programme. Any such increase shall always be in accordance with the law. When undertaking a placement year, a placement year fee applies.

Assessment

The programme will be assessed through a combination of class tests, individual and group coursework, projects, presentations and practical assessments. Our programmes at Aston University London have no exam assessments.
