Drug Delivery MSc

During the Drug Delivery MSc at Aston University, you will gain specialist training and practical experience in the design and development of advanced drug delivery systems. You will gain expertise in the latest advancements in drug delivery and targeting, strategies for overcoming drug and biological barriers, as well as learn biopharmaceutical, pharmacokinetic, and physicochemical principles crucial for designing drug dosage systems.  

Additionally, you'll delve into the biology of specific drug targets, molecular modeling for rational drug design, and relevant laboratory techniques. Furthermore, you'll gain insights into regulatory procedures and laboratory processes essential for analyzing pharmaceutical drug delivery products, enabling you to conduct independent work of publishable standard.

You will also benefit from newly refurbished laboratories, fitted with advanced pharmaceutical and analytical instruments for hands-on “wet” practicals. Course objectives

  1.  Provide you with an overview of the drug design and drug discovery processes.  
  2.  Provide you with an understanding of the biopharmaceutical, pharmacokinetic and physicochemical principles important in the design and formulation of drug dosage systems. 
  3. Address the latest advances in drug delivery and targeting and develop an understanding of the concept of drug targeting using drug carriers, with an in depth appreciation of the strategies available and utilised for a particular drug and/or biological barrier.  
  4. Provide you with insight into the regulatory procedures and laboratory processes required for analysis of pharmaceutical drug delivery products.  
  5. Develop your research skills and transferable skills relevant to drug discovery, drug design and drug delivery in preparation for a career in the pharmaceutical industry

All applicants require: 

Lower second class honours degree (2:2) or higher (or international equivalent) from a recognised university in pharmacy, pharmaceutical science, biochemistry, chemistry, chemical engineering, and materials science.

The United Kingdom government has confirmed that European Union (EU), other European Economic Area (EEA) and Swiss nationals commencing academic courses in England from August 2021 will no longer be charged the same tuition rates as UK students.

Tuition fees for students are reviewed annually and may increase in subsequent years in line with inflation linked to the Retail Price Index (RPI) to take account of the University’s increased costs of delivering the Programme. Any such increase shall always be in accordance with the law. When undertaking a placement year, a placement year fee applies.

Assessment

Assessment on the Drug Delivery MSc at Aston University is designed to test both your academic knowledge and practical skills. You will be evaluated through a combination of coursework, examinations, laboratory work, and oral and written presentations. Your research project module will be assessed via a detailed project report and an oral defence of a poster presentation, giving you experience of real-world research dissemination.

This master’s is worth 180 credits, with each credit representing around 10 hours of learning. These hours include a blend of lectures, seminars, tutorials, laboratory sessions, online learning, independent study, reading, reflection on assignment feedback, and practical activities such as fieldwork or work placements.
