Open Research at Aston
Supporting Open Access publishing, Open Research data, research profiles and impact and open practices across research disciplines
Open Research is the practice of researching in such a way that others can collaborate and contribute throughout the research process, from making hypotheses, lab notes and research data freely available, continuing through the peer review and open access publication processes, to the further dissemination of knowledge through freely available software and open educational materials. All research items should be made freely available under terms that enable reuse, redistribution and reproduction of the research and its underlying data and methods. Our Second Open Access Research Awards 2025 celebrated the impressive Open Research taking place at Aston University.

A SafePod is a secure, standardised private space that allows accredited researchers to access and analyse sensitive data safely. It provides controlled, local access to national data services, removing the need to travel to specialist data centres while maintaining strict security standards.
