There are a range of funding routes available to support postgraduate research at Aston. The options open to you will depend on your research area and the current opportunities available.

Funded studentships

Funded studentships support doctoral research by covering some or all of the costs associated with study. These opportunities are usually linked to specific research projects, priority research areas or collaborative training routes.

Funded studentships may include:

• payment of tuition fees
• a maintenance stipend
• support for research-related costs

Availability varies by discipline, project and year, and funded opportunities are advertised individually.

Other funding routes

In addition to funded studentships, some postgraduate researchers are supported through:

• sponsorship from your employer or external organisations
• funding from research councils or other external bodies
• self-funded study

UK government doctoral loans

If you are a UK student you may be eligible for a Postgraduate Doctoral Loan. This can be used towards tuition fees, living costs or a combination of both.
