Chaplaincy
At the Martin Luther King Multi-Faith Centre
The Aston University Chaplaincy team is based at the Martin Luther King (MLK) Multi-Faith Centre, located in the centre of campus, near the Library entrance.
Our Chaplains are experienced listeners, offering pastoral support, spiritual guidance, prayer, and a welcoming presence to all, regardless of faith, belief or religious affiliation.
The MLK Chaplaincy team is available to journey alongside student or staff groups with matters of a religious, international, social, ecological or political dimension.
Representing a diverse range of faith traditions and beliefs, Aston's chaplains work together in an atmosphere of multi-faith understanding and cooperation. The North Star and compass that guides our work is Martin Luther King, Jr’s vision of “beloved community.”
As part of the Student Life directorate, Chaplaincy works alongside Student Wellbeing teams, contributing to Aston's holistic care approach and wellbeing focus.
The Chaplaincy does this by focusing on three strategic areas:
Enabling pastoral care & support
Nurturing holistic & spiritual wellbeing
Cultivating creative spaces & communities
By extending welcome to all students and staff, the Chaplaincy strives to strengthen the bonds of connection and understanding between practitioners of faith traditions, different beliefs.
Whether you identify with a faith/spiritual tradition or not, please know that Chaplaincy is for you. We offer a safe space for you to seek answers to questions about what matters to you.
The Chaplaincy aims to host a “big tent” of belonging – one that includes and makes room for everyone who wants to opt in and take part.
The only requirement is that you agree to respect diversity and explore matters of religious, personal, and cultural identity with curiosity and care.
The MLK Multi-Faith Centre has a small quiet space available to all students and staff, regardless of religion, during opening hours this room is available when we are resourced with a minimum of two MLK staff members. The space can accommodate up to 6 people at a time. Everyone is welcome to use the quiet space, and we ask that all visitors are respectful of the space and silence required by others. Chairs, cushions, and mats are available for your use.
Please note that this is the only dedicated multi-faith prayer space in the MLK Centre and is not segregated into male and female.
Dedicated male and female Islamic prayer spaces are located on the ground floor of the Students' Union building. Ask at the reception desk for directions.
Separate Brothers and Sisters Prayer Rooms are located on the 1st Floor of the Main Building, Rooms MB 163 and MB 183.
Near the North Wing, look for Lift H and the stairs, and go up to the 1st Floor.
Turn left through two sets of doors for the Sisters' Prayer Room. Turn right through two doors for the Brothers' Prayer Room.
