Do you have what it takes to become a Student Ambassador for Aston University?

As a Student Ambassador you’ll be working with young people, encouraging prospective students to consider studying at Aston University and inspiring school children to consider further education.

Primarily you will be a representative of the university at various events and by becoming a Student Ambassador, you will have an opportunity to develop your personal and professional skills whilst boosting your bank balance!

Student ambassadors are employed on a casual basis, meaning it is not regular part time work. Ambassador shifts will only be available when the university has a requirement for student ambassadors. This does however mean the work is flexible around your studies/other commitments. Ambassador work is flexible and varied, but we do expect that you be available to work at least once over a 3-month period.

We recruit first year undergraduates and foundation year students for this role. We will also consider second year undergraduates from certain subjects (list will be available on job advert when live on Aston Futures). If you want to get involved see the ‘How to apply’ section below.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting events such as Open Days, Applicant Visit Days, Conferences, Campus Tours, promotional events, and course interviews

  • Supporting with school visits on campus: workshops, subject taster sessions and engaging talks

  • Supporting various university marketing activities.

  • Customer Service – must be wishing to give a great experience to all visitors on campus.

Depending on university requirements you may be involved in some or all of these ambassador responsibilities.

As a Student Ambassador you would also gain access to certain opportunities which are exclusive to the scheme. This includes:

  • Mentoring - support local students in Years 9 –13 by becoming their mentor and helping them to achieve their academic goals and realise their aspirations.
  • Alumni Ambassadors – Working at John Cadbury House to support our Alumni when they use campus facilities on request.
  • Marketing Ambassadors – supporting with specific digital marketing tasks (often social media related).
  • UniConnect Ambassadors – supporting specific initiatives relating to UniConnect.
  • Higher Education (HE) Fairs – attending various events around the country supporting Aston University’s information stand.

(E) Current Aston University Student
(E) You must be either:

  • First Year – Undergraduate
  • Foundation
  • Second Year - Undergraduate from specific courses (TBC but will be on job advert when recruitment opens)

(D) Experience in a customer service role or working with the public.

You do not need to have previous work experience to become a student ambassador, however the above list would be useful and do talk about these examples in your application if you apply.

Whilst we do not require any specific experience for this role, you will need to show you have these qualities and skills as they are essential to being a Student Ambassador.

As part of our employee recruitment processes, Aston University uses an umbrella body called First Advantage (FADV) Online Disclosures to process and interpret the results of DBS applications. First Advantage provides a comprehensive DBS service with full UK coverage, including Disclosure Scotland DBS checking service. 

If you are successfully recruited as a Student Mentor, HR will arrange for you to have access to an online application via a simple and easy-to-use online portal that links to the DBS.  HR will communicate the results of your check through the online portal. This will then be stored electronically on your Core Employee Record for the period that the DBS is required. The DBS certificate will be sent directly to your home address by DBS.
