It delves into the complexities of leading organisations through transformational change, emphasising the role of leadership in shaping, sustaining, and evolving organisational culture. The module provides theoretical insights, practical tools, and real-world case studies to equip you with the skills necessary to lead effectively in environments characterised by uncertainty, diversity, and constant change. Artificial Intelligence for Business
Rapid progress of information technology advances in business have intensified. New technologies built on the web3 infrastructure deliver far more complex technologies in easy instantly accessible ways. The complexity and impact of such new technologies on business is profound. Artificial Intelligence is testimony to radical changes businesses are grappling with. We are at the cusp of switching from wondering what AI can do for business and how to implement effective redesign of businesses. Currently, a pragmatic relearning of the core elements representing technology as organisational structures, business models and the reach of technology within these primary spheres is transformed, along with people (employees and customers). Hence, this AI module will be a timely primer towards these objectives.
15
Data Mining and Visualisation
Data Mining and Visualisation introduces students to essential concepts of data analysis, including data types, visualization techniques, data preprocessing, and dashboard design. Students explore statistical learning methods from a high-level perspective while gaining hands-on experience with real-world datasets. Through practical exercises and projects, learners develop critical skills for analysing and interpreting data, making data-driven decisions, and designing compelling visualisations. The module emphasizes employability by equipping students with in-demand analytical skills and encourages enterprise thinking through creative problem-solving. By engaging in experiential learning, students apply theory to practice, preparing for careers in data-driven industries. This module is key to building a solid foundation in data science and enhancing students' ability to communicate insights effectively.
15
Digital and Business Transformation
This module explores the transformative impact of digital technologies on business models, driving changes in products, services, and organisational structures while automating processes. The widespread adoption of technologies such as the Internet, social media, data analytics, collaborative tools, AI, and cloud computing has revolutionised industries by removing traditional boundaries of time and geography. These innovations have fostered virtual communities of employees, customers, and suppliers, introducing new market demands. Understanding the mechanics and scale of this change is central to digital transformation, enabling organisations to harness these technologies to improve productivity, reduce costs, and stimulate innovation. This comprises the core content of the module.
15
Responsible AI and the Governance of Emerging Technologies
This module develops your ability to critically evaluate AI regulatory and governance frameworks and assess the ethical risks associated with emerging digital technologies. You will apply advanced ethical frameworks to analyse organisational challenges, appraise the consequences of algorithmic bias for responsible managerial decision‑making, and formulate evidence‑based recommendations for the ethical use of AI. Drawing on contemporary research and real‑world case studies, you will build the judgement required to guide responsible and accountable technology adoption within organisations.
15
Managing Projects
Project management knowledge has improved substantially over the period through collaborative contributions from industries and academia. However, there are still incidents affecting time, cost and quality of projects all across the industries and geographical locations. This module will enable you to understand characteristics of projects, applications of project management tools and techniques.
15
Value Creation and Business Impact with AI
This module equips you with the skills to identify, design, and evaluate high‑value AI opportunities in organisational settings. You will analyse business processes to uncover inefficiencies, prioritise AI use cases, and develop AI‑enhanced business model concepts that clearly articulate value creation, data needs, and workflow integration. You will build ROI and KPI models to support evidence‑based evaluation for senior stakeholders, considering costs, benefits, and risks. Throughout the module, industry insights - especially from Capgemini - guide the refinement of proposals to ensure strategic alignment, feasibility, and real‑world applicability, culminating in a live practitioner‑engaged challenge.

What will my timetable look like?

We understand how important it is to know your timetable in advance for planning around work, childcare, or other responsibilities. Here's some basic guidance on what to expect regarding your student timetable.

Full-time programmes
As a rough estimate, full-time postgraduate students in the College of Business and Social Sciences should expect to spend about 12-15 hours per week in lectures and on-campus seminars. This is in addition to independent study, and there may be additional guided learning activities during certain weeks. The exact distribution of these hours will vary depending on your course and module choices.
Part-time programmes
Part-time students will have fewer weekly on-campus hours compared to full-time students. This reduction is proportional to the number of modules you're enrolled in.
Timetable availability
Complete timetables are usually released shortly before the start of your programme. This timing is necessary to ensure that we accommodate all course requirements and that rooms are allocated based on the number of students likely to enrol on each programme. We aim to provide these timetables as early as possible, to assist you in your planning.

As your induction week approaches, you will be sent more information about your timetable via email, and you will be able to access your timetable by logging into MyAstonPortal. For any further queries or information regarding your timetable, you can reach out to your programme director or the Student Support team.

Online/distance learning programmes
The above information also applies to students enrolled in online/distance learning programmes. Please note that both full-time and part-time distance learning students are still required to attend scheduled synchronous learning sessions.
